Lisa's Movie Reviews & Recipes: Bridgerton Season 3 Review

Lisa Loucks-Christenson, Rochester Sun Times

Finally, the day we have been eagerly anticipating has arrived. Trying to ascertain the precise number of individuals who are currently staying home today, possibly pretending to be sick or opting for a personal day, is an impossible task. It is highly probable that ardent followers of Bridgerton have already devoured the initial episodes of Season Three, eagerly anticipating the forthcoming four episodes set to grace screens in June 2024.

Many individuals, including myself, have chosen to forgo their typical coffee creamer (assuming they have a preference for cream) and are now enjoying their morning cup of coffee with one of the diverse coffee creams that bears the Bridgerton branding.

While I relish the taste of my drink and indulge in the final mouthful of toast, expertly adorned with a luscious layer of orange marmalade, I find myself eagerly looking forward to the long-awaited return of a television series that I happened upon a couple of years ago.

Being involved in various national writer groups allows me the opportunity to serve as a judge for numerous romance contests. Whether it is the first, all rounds, or the final rounds of judging, bookstore owners, employees, librarians, publishers, editors, and literary agents are always among the mix of judges.

Given my involvement as a publisher, author, and bookstore owner, I am eagerly anticipating the chance to delve into a myriad of manuscripts, particularly those that delve into the captivating world of the Regency period, similar to the captivating narratives portrayed in Bridgerton.

Meanwhile...I'm going to make my Bridgerton Toffee Coffee Cake recipe I dreamed up.

After I’m done making it and watching Bridgerton, I will be back to share my thoughts.

5/16/2024: 5PM: UPDATE

Netflix streams Bridgerton, exclusively. Bridgerton has become a compelling reason for viewers to take action. Subscribing to the service grants access to the first two seasons, with the intriguing addition of the prequel, Queen Charlotte. Those who are already subscribed can look forward to renewing their subscription.

Additionally, those who do not have a subscription can visit friends or relatives who do and enjoy a marathon of Bridgerton. Finally, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the next four episodes in Season 3.

The writers of this Regency period have not only transported viewers to a bygone era but have also skillfully infused the storyline with a perfect blend of intrigue, suspense, unexpected surprises, and humor, making it an engaging experience for the audience. Unexpected cliffhangers are something that viewers should expect, but fortunately, viewers can easily overcome this by simply clicking on the “Next Episode” button. Until all the episodes are aired and we have to endure the waiting period, just like everyone else, for the much-anticipated date of June 13, 2024 to finally arrive.

It’s undeniable that the stars and writers of Bridgerton have a knack for captivating us with their shows. Nevertheless, the extended breaks between episodes can leave us longing for the next installment.

This season’s episodes were filled with some truly remarkable lines, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the wit and cleverness behind them. Prepare to feel challenged in your sewing abilities as Eloise shares her perspective, leaving you as if you’re threading a needle.

One couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow as Penelope’s affections swelled for the man she hoped would be her husband, learning from him what he desired in a life partner, her heart heavy with the weight of unrequited love.

I promise you won’t be disappointed - the acting is great, and the new family member in Lady Danbury’s crew will have you hooked and wondering what they’re up to in the future episodes.

I can’t stop thinking about Lady Danbury’s line. It’s my favorite. She shares her wisdom about past lives and throws caution by referencing the dangerous of such places. Her performance and exact enunciation of her words portrayed confidence and her empowered-self based on her experiences. This scene and words have been on my mind all day.

Of course, the last line of the Episode 4 is exactly what I hoped to hear, at some point during the fourth episode. It’s my most expected favorite line. It wasn’t so much the words, but the way they spilled out in a fast-paced scene you might need to watch twice to catch it all.

I don’t want to spoil the bounty. Brace yourself for a heart-fluttering surprise in this unexpected ending that will leave you hanging in suspense until June 13, 2024, when Episode 5 of Season 3 finally drops.

Lisa’s Bridgerton Toffee Coffee Cake

Original Recipe by Lisa Loucks-Christenson

1/2 cup white pure cane sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

2 large eggs

1/2 package of chocolate chips (semi sweet minis work well)

2 - cups of flour

1/2 cup of 2% milk

8 oz toffee chunks (or toffee candy bars)

1 cup of buttered southern pralines

1/2 cup of toffee flavored Bridgerton Cream (International brand)

1/2 stick butter (sallted)

1/2 cup light brown sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1/2 cup International Creamer Bridgerton Toffee Flavor

Instructions:

Mix the milk, toffee flavored cream, salt, baking powder, and eggs together with a whisk. I mix everything together right inside a 12x12 glass pan. I don't butter the pan. The butter on top will melt down the sides and give a golden brown edge to the cake. I think I could win first place in a bake-off with this spin on cooking. It cuts down on the use of butter and (no oil) but it tastes like double the amount of butter, just by putting it on top, not inside the cake.

After the above is stirred (it doesn't have to be perfect!) I mix in the flour, slow enough I don't get it all over the counter! Then I fold in the toffee, chocolate chips, t and southern butter pralines. Run your whisk across the top and even out the batter so it’s smooth and the same depth across the pan.

Take one stick of butter (salted) and slice 1/8 inch slices, across the pan, so their are nine squares of butter evenly spaced in the 12x12 pan.

Sprinkle the entire top with the cinnamon.

Take a 1/2 cup of brown sugar (light) and sprinkle this on top of the butter and cinnamon.

Pre-heat over to bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. When I can smell the butter cooking, I've learned my cakes are done. I still put a fork or knife into the center and only pull my cakes when the fork or knife comes out clean. At this point, the butter will be boiling on top, down the sides of the cake. I take my knife and cut all around the pan so every inch of the cake can absorb the butter.

Cut into 3x3 squares, and serve warm. I add a couple 1/8 inch slices of butter and then pour the Toffee Creamer, over the cake piece until it puddles below the cake. The cake will absorb the cream, probably before you finish eating your serving and go back for more.

Served with a dark or espresso roast coffee, with or without coffee cream (I suggest the  Bridgerton’s Toffee flavor).

Lisa's Movie Reviews & Recipes:

I pick the entertainment I want to write about. I've been writing professional reviews for a couple of decades, for various media outlets. I do not accept free products to write about. I pay for all of my movies, subscriptions, and I don't accept payment to  write my reviews or recipes. I pay for all my ingredients that I use in my recipes.

I am working on a book that will include my reviews and recipes and bonus materials I create.

On June 13, 2024, I'll not only be watching the next four installments of Bridgerton, but I'll also be making my Bridgerton Berries & Cream Coffee Cake...come back for my review and recipe!
