Rochester, Minnesota — On March 17, 2026, in a light, transforming snow over her oak savanna wildlife sanctuary, author and wildlife documentarian Lisa Loucks-Christenson documented a quiet scene that reflects the soul of her forthcoming book, Oak Savanna Winds: Blue Lupine. While walking the property, Loucks-Christenson did not witness the moment a barred owl took a squirrel, but the snow recorded the entire story for her: the depth of the owl’s wing prints, the single leg impression, and the final steps of the squirrel pressed into the fresh powder. Nearby, the pool pond mirrored the snowfall, while wind and weather sculpted delicate snow formations across the prairie, turning the landscape into a gallery of fleeting white sculptures.
